Reiki is a Japanese technique that reduces stress, enhances relaxation, and promotes healing. It is administered through the hands and is based on the idea that a “life force energy” flows through us and is the source of life. If we are stressed and our energy is low, we are more likely to become sick. Reiki is used to maintain the higher levels of energy that promote health and a positive outlook.
Reiki is a simple, natural, and safe method of healing for self and others that everyone can use. It always creates a beneficial effect and complements other medical and therapeutic techniques to promote recovery. Because of the benefits, many hospitals and hospice centers are now offering Reiki to patients and care givers. While Reiki is spiritual, it is not a religion. It has no dogma, so any one of any age or gender can learn, use, and benefit from Reiki. Because it is spiritual, however, many people find that they experience a closer relationship to God.
Reiki practitioners have been active at First Church for about three years and training workshops are offered several times throughout the year for members and friends of the church
who want to learn the technique.
